People are, to some extent, natural "mocking birds" in that we tend to imitate the people we are around. Also, acquiring a person's mannerisms, like accent, is often a good way to build consensus or agreement.

Imitating anything a person does is good way to build up trust. People do it instinctively. For instance if you stand the same way as a person you are talking to, you will automatically create a connection. I will often watch two individuals, and notice that they mimic each other continuously. One person scratches his/her head, then the other does.
