Sometimes it will work in spurts of 15-20 minutes. I can't concretely determine a pattern for when it works, but extreme hot and cold weather seem to be part of it. 95% of the time it simply reads 0. All other gages work properly. The circuit board and LED display has been replaced once, and it worked properly after the replacement.

First check for PCM codes as the PCM takes the same signal from the trans or transfer case to use for speed. If you have no codes you can be pretty sure that circuit is working. The only thing and the most usual cause of this is a crappy dash unit. You can't fix these things, just replace.
