I will be flying into amsterdam for a tradeshow being held in Rotterdam. How would I get to Rotterdam? Is there a train or taxi? If I arrive in amsterdam and want to stay a night before going to Rotterdam where should I stay where it is not far from the train? How much euros is the train? Does the train go to rotterdam all day and night? Any help would be greatly appreciated... i know the show is near the Hilton in rotterdam so I will stay there, is there much to do in that area (ahoy centre)?

From Schiphol, you can take the train south, and it takes only about 30 minutes or to Rotterdam. There are hotels near the central train station in Rotterdam; if they are full, there are hotels in The Hague, which is fairly close. Everything is close in Holland, and the train and metro systems are great if a bit pricey. VERY convenient--you won't have any trouble at all. Schiphol is very well marked, and you actually go north 20 minutes to get to Amsterdam proper.

You don't arrive in Amsterdam, you arrive at Schiphol Airport... Schiphol Airport is inside the triangle Amsterdam/Rotterdam/The Hague... There''s excellent trains making that triangle 24 hours a day... It's about 15 minutes from Rotterdam to The Hague, then about 45 minutes from The Hague to Schiphol, 15 from Schiphol to Amsterdam and a little more than an hour from Amsterdam to Rotterdam (going through The Hague)...

As touristy as Amsterdam is, Rotterdam is NOT... It's a very large Port city and it shows... There's a lot of nightlife but maybe not the best if you're a tourist instead of a drunk sailor or a local... For going out at night I definitely recommend Amsterdam over Rotterdam... Of course if you like things a bit more quiet and classy you should go to The Hague... (you can smoke in any of those cities, you don't need to go to Amsterdam to do that)...

The airport is on the train line Amsterdam-Rotterdam, so you can choose to go either way.
The trains run hourly through the night and up to at least 4 each hour during the day, so no need to take a taxi, (and those are very expensive too.)

From Amsterdam centraal station (the one for the town) to Rotterdam centraal station takes one hour or one hour and ten minutes, depending on which train.
Till the first of January you pay €12.70 for a one way ticket, €22,80 for a same day return. (The prices may go up, but not a lot.)

Schiphol to Rotterdam 40 to 50 minutes, and will be a little cheaper.

I do not know how much there is to do near Ahoy, but I do know that it is just a few stops by metro to the center of town. (And a taxi in the middle of the night will not be hard.)

In Amsterdam there are many hotels near the station, but the distances in the Netherlands are small, so staying right at the station is not needed.
Staying in Amsterdam for a show in Rotterdam, or staying in Rotterdam and going to Amsterdam for a few hours is very easy to do.
