I think I'd start drawing the line around 100 million dollars. Around that point you start getting in to the range where you could live with 0 effort for a lifetime. But there's also something to be said for taking care of your family for generations to come.
Personally I wouldn't have a problem with all of these people with vast amounts of wealth if I thought for a second the majority of that money was hard and honestly earned. Experience has taught me though that people with money have a funny way of holding on to it and making it grow even under the worst circumstances.

It depends on the person. Once you have enough money to cover all your basic needs for yourself and your family any additional money can go towards additional or better possessions; property and luxury items, for example.
There is a notion that many people have that the conspicuous consumption and display of expensive items gives the owner greater social status - these items are known status symbols.
A sports car, opulent jewellery, an island for example.
When the desire for greater wealth to buy these status symbols makes your health or relationships with other people suffer then you have too much money. (Or not enough sense depending on how you view these things.)

I don't think it's a matter of it being too much money for one person. I think it's about building family wealth. I really get irritated when people get angry with athletes for what they make. They are not only setting up themselves but also their children and their children's children, etc. There is no such thing as TOO MUCH.

When that person is just throwing money away or is at a point where they spend money really stupidly ($25,000 for dinner or dessert) or buy the biggest house just because they can, not because they want to or need it. I absolutely detest excessive consumption. It's bad for the environment for one.

Well you need enough to pay all your bills and to have a social life... buy anything you want. Then if you get bored after that.. thats to much money.

It isn't the money. It's the person's ability to manage their life. Doesn't matter how many dollars if they don't know how to handle it.
