ok so i know that a^2+b^2=c^2 bu what if you are only given one leg of the triangle and the hypotenuse? How do you find the length of the other leg????????

You subtract.
c^2 - a^2 = b ^2 or
c^2 - b^2 = a^2

Say c^2 is the hypotenuse and b^2 is the one leg given you are trying to find a^2 you take away C^2 from B^2 and you should a^2

c^2-b^2=a^2
{rearrange equation}
In other words.. hypotenuse squared minus leg of triangle squared equals other leg of triangle squared

Given a^2 + b^2 = c^2, then:

a^2 = c^2 - b^2, and

b^2 = c^2 - a^2

subtract the leg you have from the hypotonuse
C^2-B^2=A^2
