Ok I wasn't going to even answer this until I read the stupid answer about Chrisitan's not even thinking of Jesus on Christmas because thats a load a crap!! If you are a true Christian, you do think of Jesus on Christmas. I've been to church and church plays on Christmas just about all my life. And I think that a lot of people...not just Atheists, forget what Christmas is all about. Anymore, its just about spending lots of money on gifts and being excited to get gifts. It's more about Santa Clause than Jesus, which I think is ridiculous. But anyways... Atheists aren't the only ones who don't celebrate Jesus on Christmas.

They are celebrating the holiday season with family and friends I would imagine. People celebrated the Winter Solstice, or Midwinter, long before th birth of Christ. Actually, I think it was the Emperor Constantine, who actually wasn't even a Christian until on his death bed, who decided it would be a good Idea to move Christmas to this time. He did it because he didn't want his declaring Christianity the official religion of the empire to deprive all the Pagan religions of their big Midwinter celebration. Go figure. But I still love Christmas anyway.

Winter Festivals!
Pre-Christian origins:
A winter festival was traditionally the most popular festival of the year in many cultures. Reasons included less agricultural work needing to be done during the winter, as well as people expecting longer days and shorter nights after the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere.[4] In part, the Christmas celebration was created by the early Church in order to entice pagan Romans to convert to Christianity without losing their own winter celebrations.[5][4] Most of the most important gods in the religions of Ishtar and Mithra had their birthdays on December 25. Various traditions are considered to have been syncretised from winter festivals including the following:
Saturnalia, Natalis Solis Invicti, Yule, Etc.

For a great many nonbelievers, the holidays represent an appreciation for the seasons, and family togetherness. Celebrating life and love and nature. Nature isn't just for witches, etc.

Wow good question. CHRISTmas. It is a holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ-- and no one can argue that-- it's a fact. So if you are an athiest and you are celebrating CHRISTmas, you may be an idiot.

I don't celebrate. I don't give gifts. I don't receive gifts. I don't have a family to get together with. I go to work like any other day. I go to the gym afterwards, pick up a chick, get drunk, and have sex. What else is there in life?

It's actually the opposite....why would I take a firm stand regarding something I don't believe is true and don't feel is important? It's insignificant fun to me.
