No. A break is actually a LOT harder on your body. With birth control, you are regulating your hormones. If your body doesn't have those hormones, it is going to throw you out of whack. It may even make you a little crazy. DO NOT TAKE A BREAK. When you go back on the hormones, your body will be thrown into even more trauma.
I know it sounds like it would make sense to take a break. It is a logical conclusion, sure. The reality is that you need to think about what it will do to your hormones.
Just to reassure you, my sister was on birth control from 13 (like you, to regulate her periods - they were really, really bad) and she got married when she was 23. She went off birth control at 15. Two years later she had twin boys. 3 years after that she had a little girl. Two years after that she had another little girl. I'm not sure if she's finished having babies yet... I hope so. Christmas is getting expensive.

If you do not want to get pregnant and plan to start taking the pill again later, it is best not to take a "break." This causes a lot of stress to the body! Trust me! I quit taking mine in September and have not had a period yet and I am not pregnant! I've had cramps off and on but never start. Continue the pills or talk to your health care provider about a different kind of birth control if you feel that your pills are not the best for you.

i think it takes a 2-4 monthhs to get out of your system depending on the birth control. but if u are sexually active and don't want to get pregnant then i would keep taking it to be on the safe side. maybe u should ask your doctor about tis or the company who makes your birth control. i've been on yasmine 28 and have been healthy. your periods may become irregular again when if u go off of the pill. i know u ny not want to hear this but there are major heath risks if u smoke and are on the pill. maybe ask your doctor about switching birth control methods.

There is no medical criteria that states that birth control requires "breaks." In fact doing so can actually increase chances of becoming pregnant.
If you want to protect your health, then discuss smoking cessation with your doctor. But if you TRULY want to discontinue oral contraceptives, then consider changing over to a diaphragm or a device called Lea's Shield. Both are barrier methods and when combined with spermicides and fertility awareness offer pregnancy protection in the upper 85% to 95% range.

I was on Birth Control pills for 15 years and had no problems. I asked my doctor about taking a break and she said it's actually worse to go on and off because your body has to get use to the hormone changes. I was scared to stop taking them after so long, but had no problems with that either. It's better to avoid getting pregnant if you're not ready for that yet :-)

hi Girly! I went off the pill in October 2008 and my first cycle replaced into 28 days and then my 2d replaced into 32 and now they are 31 days, never late and not early! So i assume it took me around 2-3 months. i replaced into on the pill for 7 years. How long have been you on the pill? How long have you ever been off? Are your cycle commonplace? upload-good success and infant dirt to you too! Are you temping or utilising o.ok.s?
