I asked a question (joshing LITY) about being a jinx for the Blackhawks. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqzxtcceNOHtGwvJz4jYf0Lty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071211180557AA0dZxC

Then I answered a question yesterday before the Blackhawks game, stating to break the jinx, the Red Wings are going to win the Cup, instead.

2) What goaltender was called "Apple Cheeks?

3) What was the nickname for Detroit Olympia?

LITY: I am doing this for the Blackhawks own good. I am a jinx, and to prove it we will see what happens tonight when I say: "The Red Wings will win the Stanley Cup".
I am setting up this experiment to see if I am really cursed. Every time I get sassy about someone winning, they lose. Btw: I mailed your fruitcake yesterday.

cyrenaica: Do you hang out in the HHOF Resource Centere everyday? The Detroit Cougars back then are the way the Rolling Stones are now. Let's see, we've got Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Charlie Watts.....ah, who's that guy on bass. Somewhat of a tribute name, yet all the members are not there. cyrenaica, if I were a zombie, I'd eat your brains first. That's a complement, just so you know. :)

Wings Fan & Mike: It believe my curse how powers. Lets see who wins tonight.

Lity: Yeah, I figured this much about him. I am starting my own conspiracy theory that he is really a computer. Maybe I could sauté them with some onions and garlic?

Haley, question 4 is inaccurate, but I'll answer the rest.

1. Charles Hughes of the Detroit Athletic Club was granted an NHL franchise on May 15, 1926 for the NHL expansion fee of $15,000

2. Harry Lumly was called 'Apple Cheeks'

3. The Detroit Olympia was known as the Old Red Barn and the Old Barn, and both references were commonly used in Detroit News Publications and The Hockey News

4. I have to stress this. The Victoria Cougars and the Detroit Cougars are two separate franchises. There is no 'legal' connection as far as the NHL is concerned because even though the WCHL dissolved, the franchises remained intact and the Victoria Cougars remained owned by Frank Patrick.

The NHL granted the Detroit Cougars a franchise on May 15, 1926. Four months later (September 25, 1926) A $100,000 financial arrangement was made which transferred the professional rights of those on the Victoria Cougars (except Hap Holmes and Lester Patrick) to the Detroit Cougars to allow Detroit to fill out their roster (they had signed 4 players in between those dates).

So, the Victoria Cougars were flush with cash in 1924-25 (Stanley Cup winner)
The Victoria Cougars were flush with cash in 1925-26 (Stanley Cup finalist) and in fact made $25,000 that year
In 1926-27, the Victoria Cougars were dormant while the owners of the teams in the WCHL looked for a new league. But they had cash.

The Detroit Cougars started on May 15, 1926 with $50,000 in cash on their books.
On August 1, 1927, the team was overdrawn to the tune of $84,000.
4 years later the Detroit Falcons (renamed by Jack Adams) went into receivership, and in 1933, James Norris bought them.

In 1931, Frank Patrick sold the rights to the Victoria Cougars to an 'unnamed' group of investors who never did revive them.

The Historical and Financial Records detailing these deals were at the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Rangers, Black Hawks, and Red Wings.

1)Charles A. Hughes bought the Victoria Cougars, kept the Cougars name, but the Olympia wasn't finished, so they played in Windsor, Ontario
2) Harry Lumley
3) The Old Red Barn
4) they won the Cup in 1925, last non-NHL team to do so. Were in debt at the end of the 26-27 season

Well it seems cyrenaica has the trivia part covered quite thoroughly, lol.

Haley: The Red Wings do not need your jinx to not win the Stanley Cup. They won't win it either way, they will lose to the Avs in the playoffs. (Damn I am really hoping the Avs play the Wings).

You have been removed from the Christmas Card list!

Haley,
I love fruitcake. There's a bakery in South Chicago (near the waterfront) that makes a beautiful British style fruitcake with a nice marzipan icing on it. I can taste it now.

Haley,
Cyren's a hockey historian. He's done some of the research for the books you and I read like total hockey, the NHL Guide, etc. He's one of those stats junkies that keeps those things going. He's a dull guy though.....so you better add salt and pepper to the brains to spice them up!

Sauteed brains.................I hear that's a delicacy in France!

There are only two things that will survive a global nuclear war. Cockroaches and fruitcake. I will eat neither of them.

I saw Lumley play in an Old Timers game in Owen Sound in 1970 i think it was. First he sat in a rocking chair and later they gave him a sheet of plywood to cover the net.

This jinx isn't going to work honey...

But if they do go on a losing streak, it won't be because of your jinx, i may have just put a curse on the Wings by saying yours isn't going to work.

But I'll still blame it on you ;)
