Yes, people have gone through my stuff, stolen my stuff, taken my job, my friends, broken into my car, etc. It just happens. Nothing is sacred. That's life. Best to keep a sense of humor about it all or you'll end up very bitter someday. Always be super careful about ever putting something in writing that you wouldn't want other people to read.

Composing at the keyboard's dicey business as you note.
A pen and pad is very nice for keeping what you wrote
Intact when all the lights go out. Refrigerator hum is gone.
"My poem! Lost!" Your angry shout--the damage has been done.
I trust my pencil and the sheet of paper on my desk.
The system isn't very fleet--some might say grotesquely
Slow--but sadly so am I. It does it well enough.
Of power failures fret not I. I never lose my stuff.
--------------
That's a lie, of course. I composed this one at the keyboard, reckoning that I could probably count on ten minutes of reliable power, and crashlessness.

And pray tell, just what can replace the company of a good computer with the thrill of running your fingers across the keyboards? An old typewriter, the keys of a grand piano, or the gentle quack of a pet duck? Quack on baby.......

Those rotten computer Gremlins!! I loved that poem; you are so gifted. I think it needs a good swift kick. Mine crashed once~~too long a story to go into. Staples messed it up and my friends at the Source fixed it for me. I hope you get your computer up and running again. xo everyone needs a hug and a kiss when things don't go right. xoxoxo

Elysabeth, there's another way to compose,
I admit it's one youth hardly knows,
One can write on paper with pen and ink,
The mere act of writing helps one think.

No, it hasn't, but it has when I was writing a very critical letter to my cousin - couldn't even have time to save any of it ! Lost 6 pages - now they are all floating up there in cyberspace.

I am sorry this happened. I feel for you. To answer your question, yes, I've experienced this horrid event. I now make a hard copy in the midst of writing.

A perilous journey on keys
Electricity bleeds
..and the backup PS, 'beep beep'
In your sleep
The nightmare's not real,
In a brown out,
You're lost at the wheel...

Major bummer, sorry for your loss. We wait with baited breath and a sense of doom as to how long this may keep you from gracing us with your gift of poetry again.
