Apparently some people feel that way.
They feel as if their candidate has no chance, and so they will vote for "the lesser of the two evils" when it comes down to it rather than fighting hard to support the candidate they believe should win, but I tell you a vote for the lesser of the two evils is still a vote for evil no matter how you look at it, and it should not be done.
And as far as americans hearing what they want to hear rather than hearing the truth? I would rather hear the truth any day, but many naive americans would rather hear what they want to hear. For example, they would rather vote for someone like Mitt Romney..who is good at telling everyone what they want to hear, rather than voting for Ron Paul.. who tells the truth no matter how it will be portrayed - infact, a lot of people who don't take the time to do their own research have called him plain loony, but that is not the case.. And if telling the truth and being honest, no matter how bizarre, makes you crazy? Well then, no wonder americans have been spoon fed BS for years.

I don't think they do vote that way. I for one vote for the one I want to win, and that person is also the one whom I think should win. I don't have any idea who will win.
Nothing is better than the truth. What you want to hear may at times be more soothing, but the truth will win out.

They would rather throw their vote away on someone who they think is going to win whether they vote for them or not, than do the right an honest thing and vote for the person who should win.

That's a good question. I can't understand why anyone would vote for a candidate who would continue our practice of undeclared wars around the globe, huge deficits and a declining dollar, and the erosion of our civil rights. That's why I am voting for Ron Paul.
What appeals to people about the other candidates? Do they enjoy the prospect of war? Do they like paying outrageous taxes? Are they content to see their rights taken away by politicians who are going to "protect them from terrorism"?
Why do you want more of the same? Why would you vote for one of these criminals?

The other problem is simply voting for whoever is most popular. You're right. People should vote for who they think is the best candidate... especially in the primaries where it is not as imporant as the general election.
Voters just don't want to do their homework... so they do what Bill, Oprah or Chuck Norris say.

An almost uniquely American voting trend.
Everybody loves a winner and many often vote for who they think will win. You only find it here, by and large. Not in Europe and other places.
There is an American psychological obsession with winning.

It's hard not to believe in a candidate you really identify with. It's hard to say what guides a politicians heart. All you can do is research their past records and see if you agree. Sometimes its a gut feeling. Also its fun to back a proven winner. Someone who has won elections in the past.

So they could say "I told you so" It makes them feel like they made the right decision. I will not do that. I will vote for Mitt Romney because he is the only one that could bring the great economy back. He probably will not win, but I will do my duty.
