The empire started when the supreme court started ruling by precedent instead of originalist interpretation. Every ruling ratches us further and further away from our constitutional protection.
This is a bad thing.

It's not an empire?
the Philipines? Puerto Rico? Iraq?
I mean, we don't call ourselves an empire, but that is a moot point. The Romans never called themselves an empire and made no distinction between what we now call Republican Rome and Imperial Rome. They never used the term Emperor, the word itself comes from the Latin term for Commander. They called them "princep", which means first-citizen. The Senate continued to hold on to the illusion that they were important until well into the 7th century, which was long after Rome had collapsed.
The only politicians who called for a return to their roots as a Republic were regarded as an eccentric few who didn't understand that times changed and that Rome needed a strong leader to lead them. Sound familiar?
The United States has been an Empire ever since the Spanish-American war, when it decided that military adventurism is a fun and exciting way to arouse patriotism. It was cemented in 1913 when Woodrow Wilson said that it was America's divine duty to police the world and spread democracy.

I believe you are indirectly referring to "Manifest Destiny". The early Americans belief that spreading their way is not only right, but justified by God as well.
Although I do not propagate any religion per se, I will say it is a remarkable thing that I am not stoned to death for that. Our freedoms, while not perfect, are the best relative to what I have seen around the world throughout my many travels.
I do wish we could infuse a bit of the European liberalism that makes the attitudes of those in the Netherlands, Scandenavia, and Canada so positive and respectful - I don't want to forget Japan in their as well.
But let me say that much of the Empire exists, and it has spread, although the form it is in now is not an ideal model, I do think it may be a good thing more or less.
I say, in Iraq, we do a lottery and let individuals do a year long homestay in the States. After a year of indoor plumbing, Super Markets, great entertainment, and air conditioning I think they would stop caring so much about Allah and fighting over religion. Religious animosity is most prevelant in under-educated societies. They are not bad people, they just have never seen anything "outside" of their world. If America can spread that, I think it is justified.
Happy Holidays!

Well, by the basic definition of Empire:
"An empire (from the Latin "imperium", denoting military command within the ancient Roman government) is a state that extends dominion over populations distinct culturally and ethnically from the culture/ethnicity at the center of power."
The USA -is- an Empire.
Actually, if anything, the US is losing standing in the world economically, which might suggest the fall of the empire rather than the rise of it.

I believ it extremely is fullyyt attainable. no longer something could be sustained perpetually, and in simple terms because of the fact the US falls dosnt mean it extremely is going to thoroughly disentegrate. look at super Britain, it replaced right into a extensive wealthy, imperialistic u . s ...and it fell yet remains broadly respected. I dont understand the way it extremely is going to take place, my wager is a sluggish decline in GDP and a decision in of money owed. the US is in simple terms too cocky for its very own good. we at the instant are not any smarter than the different particular u . s ., errors would be made. the rustic replaced into torn aside in the process the civil conflict, possibly it extremely is going to likely be lower back yet because of the "freedoms" we savour as electorate. non secular intolerance, the foistering of one perception on yet another without appreciate to their perception...and that i dont mean islam..it extremely is going to take place and people who have faith it wont are very naive, even though it dosnt mean it extremely is going to likely be a ruination of each thing, we are able to proceed to exist and adapt
