Christmas is all about the spirit of giving. We've lost sight of this in all the commercialization. I'd donate to different charities and buy toys for the toy drives, and definately support the local food bank.
I've already done this in a small way this year. I pretty much qualify for some of those charities myself. I remind myself though that no matter how bad times are for me, there are those who are worse off.

I would use it to buy groceries and do a small amount of Christmas shopping, including setting aside what I would need to be able to fly to see my parents during the time one airline is doing special rates. Whatever's left, I would absolutely give to charity.
You see, with the money I have, every penny is accounted for. as it stands, the earliest I can do ANY Christmas shopping is the Friday before Christmas. I don't even have grocery money until then, nor do I have enough food in my house to last until then. For January, after paying for all the necessities (rent, utilities, food, medical, loan payments, etc.), I only have approximately $100 left for the month for any sort of entertainment or emergency (car repairs or whatever high priority thing comes up). I hate budgets.

That would be my intention.. but we donate to a needy family anyways, regardless of having the extra money or not. My husband is Muslim, so on top of spending money on Christmas gifts for my family and each other.. we also donate money for his holiday, Eid, which falls on December 20th this year. This particular Eid holiday is meant for those who are working, even if they don't have a lot of money, donating food to the poor.. as much amount as you can do.. so if we fell into the extra cash.. it would be helpful in affording it. Best Wishes!

With the recent problems we've had with the ice storm and power outages, I'd probably have to use the money for repairs and that sort of thing. Any other given time, I'd give the money to charity.

I just bought a house, so I'd probably keep the money for now. You never know. I don't want to end up having a run of bad luck and become one of those people in need...
If you asked me in 5 years or so though; I'd probably be far more willing to part with that money...

Well with things being so pricey these days, maybe you might need other things to prepare for next year, it would be hard not to spend it on necessary things...
I would however give it to charity
