i have noticed that different parts of the u.s have different styles of music that's popular. what is the most popular where you live? i'm from tennessee, so everyone assumes i listen to country(i don't by the way...well very few country songs). have you ever had someone assume you listen to a certain kind of music because of where you live?

If you go by what the radio stations play, I'd have to say hip hop, classic rock, and adult rock. It's about as thrilling as a drywall seminar.

I haven't had any generalizations placed on me because of where I live. But, I'm always wearing some form of Punk shirt anyway, so it's easy to tell.
In SoCal, it's extremely varied, and you never can tell. Hip Hop is very popular, as is Metal and Punk. Everything out here is dominated by the extreme sports scene (particularly motocross, surfing, skateboarding, and BMX), and music associated with it.

Well I'm from texas. People here don't listen to country, it's pretty weird because there is supposed to be cowboys. Mostly hispanics live here. Everyone listens to rap, hip hop, raggaeton and all those type of genres. There's a few people like me that listen to rock.

I live "out in the sticks" (finger lakes region of NY) so people assume I listen to country , which is popular here , but I'm a rocker at heart . I have a Sirius radio so I have lots of rock options. : )

I'm originally from Iowa and although it wasn't REALLY popular I have yet to live anywhere else that has as much of a following for house music. I understand that's most likely because of Iowa's proximity to Chicago but my point still stands.

I wouldn't say Chicago has one particular style of music (Blues, I guess) but in my neighborhood, it's nothing but Mexican folk music 24/7. It sounds a lot like polka, if you've heard it.
Grundle2 - The prevalance of House music in Iowa is because of the Meth-head Ravers who live there. Don't blame Chicago.
