Nothing lasts forever, the cultural centers of the world shift regularly.

With the increasing anti-intellectual undercurrents in the USA I'm a little worried about my technologically advanced western nation.

In the sense of one step ahead of the other countries? For a while. Of course, increased technology inherently would mean the advancement of other nations due to the economic expansion and the remission of ostensible boundaries (i.e. everything becomes interconnected).

As we're already seeing, second-world countries all across the globe are feeding off the resources of the western countries (via internet, communications, education, imitation...) in order to develop.
