I don't care about them being the best in history, just the best this year.
To answer your question, not yet. There are still games to be played, the seasons not over.

I would disagree with you on that part, but agree with you that they're good this season. There is too many things to take in consideration what make a team the best for this history books. If you look at all the teams who were label the best team in NFL history. They all are lacking some here and there but they manage to win the big game (Super Bowl) with what they have at that time. Some have a good defense, offense, great QB, RB, WR, the right plays call at the right time, lots of luck when a ball bounce off a receiver to a defense player but lose it back to the offense team and they score last minute touchdown.

I don't think that the Patriots would like to play the 89 49ers, the 99 Broncos or the 75 Steelers.
Those teams killed teams.
The 49ers were an all around great team.
The Broncos would score over thirty before halftime all the time. Terrell Davis sat out 4 games worth of playing time and still ran for 2000 with Elway throwing over 3000.
The Steelers D killed everyone they faced hands down. With Terry running the offense with force.

I think it is a tie between the 2007 Pat and the 1985 Bears. The Bears defense vs the Pats offense.
But the Pats are clearly better than the '72 Dolphins. The fact that they will likely go 16-0 puts them two up on the Dolphins 14-0 season. There has been a lot of debate over the schedule the teams played, and overall, I think they both benefited from weak schedules.

In the era of free agency, I would have to say yes. If we're talking about before free agency, then I would have to rate the Pittsburgh Steelers as the best team ever.
That defense was awesome. After them, I would have to say that the 1985 Bears were a close second. They romped the Pats 46-10.
I give the Steelers the edge simply because they won four SuperBowls in a six year period. The Steel curtain defense was definitely that. "STEEL".
They are also the only team to win back to back SuperBowls twice.

Stats-wise, possibly, especially in regard to their QB (and believe me, it pains me to admit that). When you speak of greatness, however, you also have to throw in fan appeal and what that team does for the NFL and the sport of football as a whole. Since so many people dislike the Pats and their head coach in particular, they may qualify as the best team ever but fall far short of being the greatest team in NFL history.

No...I think they are the best team in the Free Agency Era, but not in History. The '85 Bears, '92 Cowboys or '75 Steelers might have something to say.

Going undefeated is great and all but the Dolphins did and nobody will say they are the best ever. I think they have the best O ever, but the Steelers of the 70's, 49ers of the 80's and Cowboys of the 90's all had better D's.

Nope. History will tell. Best team in the league in this era though. They win by slim margins, they win by big margins. They win with near scrub players, they win with marquee players. They give older players a chance for a ring. And they give younger players a chance to make a name for themselves, get rings, and go out and get bigger contracts. The most generous team that ever existed though.
