He was not a sniper. This is a false rumor. Just look him up and you will find lots of information.
He was an ordained Presbyterian minister. All his life he worked for the benefit of children. His TV show was educational on the level of emotions.
One thing I remember, which is seldom mentioned. When the US intervened in the Persian Gulf the first time (it was over in a month) Mr. Rogers did TV spots intended to help young children to cope with the war. Children were affected by it, my 3-year-old daughter wet her pants for the first time in her life. One spot targeted children, using the puppet characters to deal with the question of "why the people in Reality are having a war." The answer was that "people in Reality have always had wars," but children will still "be well taken care of." There was a companion spot targeted toward parents, advising them how to reassure their children.

I never heard the sniper thing either. I just remember him being on I think somewhere between Romper Room and Sesame Street twenty-something years ago. I remember my kids being bored with the show. I'd feed them breakfast then. I remember being bored with it too. Think I liked the train though. And the owl. Very wierd show. Very wierd. Wonder how it lasted so long.

Got rid of the t.v when the first two kids (now in their twenties) were in elementary school I think so I don't know what happened since then.

For a eulogy? If you're serious...we'll always remember his sweater, his calming voice (cough cough...translate: boring); his relationships to community members...wonder what happened to the mailman. speedy delivery. somebody should do a eulogy for him.

I just googled Fred Rogers and read a half dozen biographies. None of them mention that he was a sniper.

I don't know if it's true but a rumor that circulated after his death was he wore sweaters to cover the many tattoos he received while in the Navy and he was a former SEAL.
