Hey...Christina girl who is wearing an eskimo hat and trying to be a fabulous Alaskan-you said this:
You don't want to discourage him from going back there again because of you.... Have a good day. Oh i work at wal-mart, so i know.
She obviously does want to discourage him from going back there. I think that you need to learn how to make observations of other people correctly, especially since you work in a people-related job. Someone could ask you 'how's it going' and you might tell them the actual truth.
Jane, damn the man, that guy doesn't deserve help. BUT, I used to tell people to bite me, and then one did. It's kind of a dangerous insult.
FYI Wal-Mart is the devil.

Well.... you do not tell him to "Get Lost" or "Bite Me" i am surprised u did not get fired for that on the spot. If he is being unreasonable, tell him you are calling the manager so he could deal with him. Standing there arguing with him will only make it alot worse. The customer is always right, Even when you feel you are. You don't want to discourage him from going back there again because of you.... Have a good day. Oh i work at wal-mart, so i know.

I don't think the problem rests entirely on the customers these days.
While, yes, customers probably are a little more obnoxious than they were 10 years ago, it is because so many customer service representatives are only there for their paychecks and don't give a hoot about giving assistance to any one.
The World could do with a little more "do unto others as you would have them do unto you", if you ask me.
The customer is not getting PAID, the company representative is and accordingly should TRY to do their part in giving assistance.
Although, there are extremes, both ways.

You should have told him to speak with the manager if he was unreasonable. You don't have to put up with an unruly customer.
