Should they be citizens of the U.S. or would it matter?

In my county, an idea was thrown around about recruiting more Asians and Latinos, whether they are citizens of the U.S. or not. Any comments?

Hi, daisymae....

I don't think nationality should be the focus. Instead all recruits should have to undergo rigid psychological testing to weed out the ones that are in it for the thrills or the feeling of power policing gives them.

America is a land of diverse ethnicity. It would be nice for the newest citizens to see that the American government is willing to give them a chance at policing themselves with recruits from their own ranks.

There needs to be a law saying they must be american citizens first. It would matter a lot, they might not interpret the laws they are supposed to uphold the correct way with the language barriers. IMO

Well we have plenty of people here already that want to work in law inforcement. We need more money to pay them with. Many cities don't budget enough money for added police.

American, we should police ourselves. We train our forces to be sensitive to other nationalities who do not have a good use of our language. My son says one thing everyone understands is the word "jail".

I think they should be US citizens. Nationality shouldn't make a difference though. I do like what mr. ed suggested too.

i really do not care except i feel strongly that everyone working in any city position should be required to live in the city where they serve so they would have a vested interest in keeping THEIR city safe!!!
