I am 35 year old technology executive. I have spent my life being busy with career. I spend my holidays with family, visiting places, friends, and catching up on work.... and I am not getting the sense of satisfaction. Why do I deserve to do all this when so much of the world has so many problems?

This holiday season, I want to do a genuine good deed. And I have no idea where to start. Hence I seek your thoughts. I am open to all suggestions.

P.S: Donating money to any foundation is a good deed, but I am looking for more ideas.

Donating toys for underprivileged children. So many children will be waking up on Christmas day with little or no presents under the tree, I am sure it would make you feel fulfilled knowing on Christmas morning as you are celebrating, you brought joy to many families who without your kindness would have nothing.

Good for you!!

When serving others, I always find it most satisfying to roll up my sleeves and do something (not just write a check). Especially since I'm a mouse pilot, myself.

Here are some things I have done:
Find an organization that helps underprivileged/elderly people winterize their houses and do general fix-up. You can work a few hours, a day, a weekend, ...
Go work a soup kitchen or homeless shelter for several days. Connect with an outfit that distributes blankets and food to the homeless.
My wife and I volunteer every year at a giftwrap booth that raises money for the local crisis hotline. It's cushy, indoor work but it's a lot of fun and it's for a good cause.

I know there are lots of volunteer outfits that distribute food boxes and hot meals to the elderly and homebound. I'd bet their workload goes way up this time of year.

Consider making a committment to help build a Habitat for Humanity house. My wife's done that; she really enjoyed it.

...and check your newspaper in the community pages. Ours has a listing of volunteer opportunities.

Good luck, and well done.

One thing I have done in the past years is donated through a Giving Tree. I have seen these in some Walmarts, but they are mostly located in or near the center court of malls.
These are Christmas trees that have tags on them, filled out by volunteers who are fulfilling wishes for gifts for needy children.
You get to pick a tag off the tree, and buy the item the child is asking for. You bring it back to the volunteers before Christmas, (they tell you when it's due). They wrap the presents. Then they bring all the kids to the tree either before or on Christmas to get their gifts.
The looks on their faces and everything is unbelievable! Some cry, they shout; they actually cannot believe that some stranger is fulfilling a wish for something they really wanted.

Another thing to do is help animal shelters. They are always in need of blankets, food, or cash donations. They are not usually funded by cities, counties, or the state, but on private donations and volunteers. This is a really worthwhile cause, also.

Merry Christmas, and bless you for caring !

Donate some time at a homeless shelter serving food. Adopt a child from an angel tree if there's time left.
Pay for a family's dinner at another table the next time you go out to eat. (My family does this with an elderly person on Christmas Day when we go out for breakfast.)
Make or buy some cookies and take them to a nursing home.
Give a stranger a $20 bill.

Sending care packages to our soldiers who won"t be home for Christmas, or spend some time with someone at a nursing home who won't have anyone to visit there is a lot to do ,if we all think like that ,the world would be a better place ,God Bless You and Merry Christmas

Find a homeless person that would like to go home for the holidays and pay their way. Nothing like having Christmas with family and it could mend a few fences too!

I am contributing this year to SKIP, or Special Kindness In Packages. SKIP collects donations of items on the wish lists of service members in war zones and ships them to indivual soldiers. The organization is made up of volunteers and has no overhead. 100% of your donation goes to postage for mailing packages. http://www.specialkindness.org/
