I looked up your ZIP code and you are surrounded by water. I'm guessing that the water table in your area is very shallow. Whether or not you have potable water is another story. Other than calling local water well drilling businesses, you might want to try your County Surveyor's office. They often know the answers to these questions that pertain to local conditions. They are also likely to have hydrological maps of your area.

You also might want to try your County Health Department. They are probably the ones that issue permits for the drilling and testing of potable water wells. They are sure to be familiar with your area.

Most counties in the USA have a "county extension" office that deals with agricultural issues. They might be able to provide you with information.

If any of your neighbors have wells, they might be a good source of information. Have you thought to talk to them?

Good luck with your search for information.
