I've talked to several academics and scholars who are experts in their respective fields regarding this issue. Now, I just want to hear it from the common people.

What do you think?

The reason is very simple, though perhaps not politically correct: war WORKS.

It may not be nice, or fun, or inexpensive. But it DOES solve some problems. It would be fantasy to pretend otherwise. And sometimes, it is more nice, more fun, and less expensive than other ways of resolving problems, as strange as that may seem.

We may not like war, but we all benefit from its existance directly and indirectly. Technologies are developed for war that are used for peace. War creates a need for society that might not be as compelling otherwise.

Even if you can eliminate the kind of war that involves physical violence, there are other kinds of wars to consider. Wars of ideas. Wars of economics. Wars of politics and social endeavors. Reasonable people often come to different conclusions for the same data. Though they do not always come to blows over them, it hardly makes some of the conflicts any less vehement.

I'm not saying that we should seek war. But I am saying that its not the horrible monster it's often made out to be. War is Nature's way of making sure that the strong survive and do well. Doesn't it serve us all for this to be so?

For as long as there is something out there to dictate how the whole world behaves, there is going to be division. And when problems don't get solved, society gets worse. All over the world there is racism, there is the inability to have respect for other religions, there is disagreement over the world's ability to accept certain forms of governments, and our inability to come up with a compromise on any of it, some of us are even going as far to say they are anti-compromise.

But I feel that it can only get worse in the future. I'm sorry to have to throw global warming into this, but you know what, the rise of the oceans will be the beginning of a new era for humanity that will kick off a massive panic, followed by the European Union declaring war against the United States and China. Not to mention that the warming will probably result in the end of the free government that the U.S. has, because people will be probably shot in the street by groups of vigilantes that will be going around killing every person they see driving a car. Can you say Martial Law?

The problem is, we the human race are so divided on the challenges that we face ourselves with that it only results in our end. We are at a point of self destruct right now, and maybe we should think about enjoying life before we lose it by unnatural means.

Because people are competitive by nature. People have different views, which as a part of the competitiveness, they must always be right in their standing. i.e. Religion, politics, managment, type of ice cubes to use, what color the sky is, and so forth. We will never be a peaceful world because as a whole, it is impossible. EDIT: If they held a world conference, think of all the countries, the third world countries, the larger ones, every single country on the face of the earth that has a leader. How would we achieve that peace? Force everyone to work regardless of age, brutally kill children of families who disagreed with the government. Everyone has a different idea about peace. It might work for awhile, but someone would want to be the leader of the peaceful country.

No easy answer I am afraid.
Your dealing with humanity and therin lies the root of the problem.
Since humans have freewill they have the capacity to do many things negative and positive.

If you look at much of the violence in the world today you will find at the core of it is a desire by certain parties to control something, and then allied parties who may have an interest in seeing a desired outcome.
This can be about money, power, political ideals, religion, or ethnicity. Unfortunately there are some very evil people in the world who hold influence and have no qualms about instigating suffering as long as they get what they desire.

I doubt very much that this question will ever be resolved. We are capable of great things both for good and evil.

In my heart it has much to do with the separatist way of thinking..Any one person, religion, government, social standing, monetary standing who feels that they are better will always try to force their opinions on the people they think "need to be saved".
It is asserting dominance over one that is "a threat or danger" to their way of life, or belief system, instead of allowing it to coexist, they feel they must destroy what does not agree.
Therefore there is no peace, as each group wants to believe that their way is the only way. Asserting their dominance and superiority over the one who does not agree is the way of life. Has been done since before time was recorded, survival of the fittest.
Why is it so hard to acheive, because everyone thinks that their way is "THE WAY", and will kill, mame, defame, and do ANYTHING it takes to make sure that their point is "THE ONLY WAY". Because the government and churches would lose too much money if everyone knew that all they do is use tactics like race, religion, party affiliation, monetary status, and underhanded and sneaky tactics, to keep us warring with one another, so we have no opportunity to see what is really happening in this world.
That is my belief, it may be wrong, but it is another view that may not have been brought to your attention. Love and light!

Because we are not robots. And until the human race is replaced entirely by robots we will never have world peace. There are six billion people on the planet, with millions of different religions, customs, and beliefs. Religion is a huge cancer on world peace. No one can prove Jesus Christ is the one true God, just as no one can prove Alah (I'm probably spelling that wrong) is the one true God. As long as people have different beliefs we will never have world peace. And to be honest, I like it that way. I don't want to live in a world where everyone has to think the same things just so we can stay peaceful. Humans are a curious species by nature. There is far to much out there, to many options to take, to have everyone share the same opinions and beliefs. I fully support one's right to believe whatever they want to believe. I could go on all day, but the bottom line is that unless you can get every person on the planet to agree on every aspect of life you will never achieve world peace.

Because no one wants to admit that they could be wrong or that there maybe a better way other than their own. No one wants to budge an inch or compromise. And instead of our government acting like adults and sitting across the table from each other, having an adult conversation where there is give and take on all sides, and placing what is in the best interest of this world and it's people ahead of their own basic need to prove themselves right, they would rather act like a bunch of 3 year olders, having a tantrum, with an " I'll show you attitude ", and send our men into battle to fight and kill people they don't know, have never met until coming face to face with them on a battlefield that should have never been in the first place.

people have not yet learned how to be peaceful creatures. peace might only be achieved if all people everywhere were to beat their swords into plowshares, but if all but one does, then you have a person who is in a position to take advantage of others by non-peaceable means. and if this is the case, everyone else should at least enjoy tthe right to defend themselves. and according to some thinking, the best defense is a good offense. a competetive spirit is deeply ingrained in people everywhere.
but i think people like deepak chopra are doing the right thing by encouraging people to be peacemakers through peaceful methods.

Because of sin in the world.

The world is not the way that God created it and because of that, all are vulnerable to the affects of sin in the world. Why does one person suffer and another does not? Why do catastrophes happen to some and no others? It is because sin is in the world. But there will come a day when the Lord will return and cleanse this world of all sin and all suffering.

"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" (Rev. 21:4).

Too many people want power and i agree with SINS,
To me, world peace is in heaven and in movies.
That's why people go to see movies because everyone wants to know...what if? Not realizing "believing" can change everything in reality.
It will have to start with equality and fairness..then if the world screws that up then...they were demons since they were born.lol But in the end of the day...LoVe can be carried to person to person..It takes a incredibly strong person to achieve this though.
