Ok here it goes, How can I get over the fear of needles poking my veins? Ok I am a really proud young man (18), but for some reason I have been afraid of needles poking my veins. And I need to go to the doctor, but they always take blood away from me. Last time I passed out. I mean I can take a shot on my *** or arm, but when it comes to the veins in my arm (opposite of elbow) I get nervous and freaked out. What should I do? I fear for my veins. I am really white almost see threw that my veins can be seen from far away (which is cool), but I dont want someone poking them atleast not the ones in my arms. When I was younger I did not have this problem.

This is ruenning my life and health. I am such a proud young man.
I am not afraid of anything else. I dont even fear death. I am afraid of no human nor animal nor creature.

As much as this answer might bother you, i would say to face it. Watch as they take blood from your arm. Take a sedative if necessary so you are better able to relax while you watch. Some people are deathly afraid of spiders, and as they slowly sit with spiders, touch spiders and are around spiders, they are eventually able to let that spider even walk on them. It is the most courage one can have.

They only way to get over a fear is to face it honey. Be strong and just do it.

I hope you will.
Take care

This never ceases to amaze me. Men who will go to war and look down the barrel of a gun and spit at it are afraid of little needles. Believe me it is less painful for them to get it from your arms instead of from say...your foot. Close your eyes and imagine you are getting a tattoo. Close your eyes and imagine that you are getting your arm cut off by some head hunter. The mind is a very powerful thing. Since you are a very proud man, I am sure that you can do this. Maybe it can be a lion attacking you or something like an alligator biting off your arm.

Good Luck...believe me, you are not alone.

ask the nurse to use a smaller needle. My nurse used one of the pediatric needs and it doesnt hurt as much or leave those ugly bruises.
I used to take bubbles for the kids to blow, but you're way too old for that! HAAA
chew some gum, look the other way and breathe out when they're going in. OH and ask for a cartoon bandaid. It always makes things better. :D

Could be a sign of a deeper emotional issue... if you feel you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT get over this fear or face it, you may want to consider counseling to find the root of the issue.

Maybe it sounds silly, but hey, there are people with a lot ::seemingly:: sillier phobias than yours. But when you look at the causes, you start to understand...

Don't look when they draw the blood. Lie down when they draw the blood. go to some phobia counseling. You may never outgrow this fear. A lot of people have this fear.

Everybody has a fear. Mine is heights. I've never fallen from anything and I'm 65 now, but I'm never going to get over it. If that's your fear, then I would accept it. That's just life.

It's a normal fear. I finally learned to watch them do it, and feel much better knowing what is going on.
