I breastfeed my newborn son.. 3.5 months old now. He has started taking less time to eat.. it used to take him about 20 minutes to finish a feeding.. and now it only takes him about 5-6 minutes then he is full. I try offering it to him again, but he seems like he's done.. and doesn't show hunger signs. Is this normal or should I be concerned? Thanks.

Everything they've said is right. Let me add that he's more alert now too, so there might be other things distracting him. I can remember that with my son, I had to sit in a quite dark room for him to nurse. He would get distracted by TV jingles, the cat, my husband, anything that made a noise. Enjoy the time you spend together; they grow so fast.

My son eats like that. Sometimes he'll nurse for 30 minutes and sometimes he just wants a snack or a quick eat and will nurse for 5-10 minutes and be ok for awhile. It all depends on how hungry he is and every baby is different with the amount of time they eat. I wouldn't be concerned. As long as he seems content, it's good!

This is normal. Babies often become more efficient at nursing. He's probably getting far more milk in 5 minutes than he used to in 20. As long as you're nursing him on cue, and he's growing and peeing, there's no need to worry about how long or how often he nurses.

It's normal. He's better at it now, and so are you. As long as he seems happy and is growing normally, I wouldn't worry. The whole system is designed beautifully, so trust it.

You can talk to your doctor if you are worried, though.

It's so important that you're doing this. Keep up the good work!

Normal! Every baby fills up at different rates! It's best not to time feedings, he'll eat till he's content.
