If this is a very small business, less than 15 employees, it is probably immune to certain NLRB laws. However, if it is a larger company, you definitely have federal rights. You may also have state-based rights that can only be determined by finding a lawyer and suing the employer. If you do, kiss the job goodbye - not only because of course you will tick him off, but if the courts come down on his shady butt and start any deep investigation, they might find enough irregularities to jail the twerp. From what you describe, it doesn't sound unlikely.

I'm not sure about the time limit for filing a W4, but I'm pretty sure that federal tax law says there IS a limit - and that would be the IRS coming after the guy. He doesn't want that. So you have SOME possible leverage. The problem will be that if the business is small enough, ... well, can you say "Fly By Night"?

You need to contact wage an hour; you should have filled out a W4 before you got a paycheck. Bounced check; warning notice this guy sucks; I'd be job hunting. Not busy sent home happens.

you have the right to demand that your check be covered and any other expenses caused by their insufficient fund check. Tell them you want to be paid in cash, or you will turn the check over to the District Attorney for collection.

Any company that can't cover their payroll wont be in business very long.
good luck
