Real calf is 6 weeks to about 3 months max.
Not sure that calves are butchered any longer, in US. Not enough money. Veal meat is definitely not a young calf. (Long story).
If imported, that may be the case.
Split leather may resemble calf hide to the average person.
All mature cattle hide "is split" when processed.

I'm very sorry if you think my lifestyle is "dunb" (you should probably spell correctly if you're going to call someone dumb), but the dairy and egg industries are just as cruel if not more so than the meat industry. Cows are kept in cages so small they can never move their entire lives. Because of this, their muscles atrophy and wither and it is extremely painful. They are also forced to live their whole lives wallowing in their own urine, feces, and vomit, which would cause all sorts of disease if they weren't pumped full of antibiotics. Also, as others have stated, cows must constantly be impregnated to produce milk. The calfs are taken away from the mother (against millions of years of maternal instinct) and the female calfs soon begin their dairy production, while the male calfs are slaughtered as veal. Chickens are just as bad. They are caged usually in stacks several units high. They are forced to endure the droppings of those above them, along with the same sort of hormone/antibiotic treatment the cows receive. These industries are part and parcel of the meat industries. You can't be an "ethical" vegetarian and eat eggs or dairy completely guilt-free.
