I see them trading it away. The Patriots are built on the philosophy of having more good players than a few superstars. I see them trading to get two or three good players instead of one great player.
Thoughts?

trigger - No one cheated.... Stop being a media drone. Cheating = competitive edge. The NFL investigated and said there was none... The fine was for violating the rules. Similar to a player missing practice, missing curfew, on feild antics, etc. Did TO cheat a few years ago when he was fined for signing the football? The Patriots violated the rules, but did not cheat. Get over it

They had two 1st round picks. They lost one for the rules violation. They have the 49ers 1st rounder.... will be a top 5 pick

Rob - I agree on Samual. No need for him. They will draft at least 1 or 2 secondary guys and Belichick is known for his eye for defensive talent. Good point on Law and Milloy... they wanted big $ and Bill said get lost. Where are they now? Although... alot of points were scored off Asante's interceptions...

Yes, because they don't need what they can get with the pick. I would like to see them trade it for a lower #1 and maybe a #2.
Personally, I don't think they'll resign Samuel. He will want too much, and they will figure out another way to fill the need. Historical support includes Ty Law and Lawyer Milloy.

yes, at the very least they will trade down to a late 1st round pick and pick up like a 4th hopefully 3rd round pick with it as well.
They make a killing in the late 1st round, also when you consider who the top 10 projected are, Pats don't need to pay the $$$ for those players, when they, like any great franchise, find talent for less cost!
EDit: we real Pats fans have come to know that a LB will NEVER be drafted by Belichick. But maybe another shot at a RB, I doubt that too, I really have no clue what position, but I'm Sure it ain't an LB.
WJ yes, they have SF #1 pick this year, as well as their own, which they lost. But the SF pick looks like it will be #2 overall right now.

My thoughts are that they have an ageing LB corp and they'll probably lose their top DB in Asante Samuel. They need to focus on filling holes in the defense, which they'll easily be able to do by trading down. If they drop from top 5 to the 10-15 range they can get a top defensive player and probably a 1st round pick next season.

Well I think they could trade away there number 1 pick. I thjink they will decide this after they see who chooses free agency rather than resigning with the Pats. I know most players want to be on a winning team, but most of the players on this team have won a superbowl so they might sell out for money. Example Petrino sold out his players and coaching staff recently. So, Moss could sell out if he wins the superbowl and go to the highest bidder. He is already a hall of famer and just wants to win a superbowl. If he becomes an unrestricted free agent pats might not want to pay the high price he might demand.
If this happens I see the patriots drafting a wide reciever.

I think they'll probably trade it, but it depends on where they are on draft day. If McFadden's available to them, I think they'll trade with a team like Chicago who needs a good back to put them over the edge. They could probably get Chicago's 1st next year and this year.
If McFadden isn't available, they may just take the best player available at the time, there aren't alot of draft picks this year who teams will be willing to trade up for other than McFadden.
That being said, the Draft's a long ways away and there's always a few surprises.

I think they'll want to, but its going to be a tough pick to move. There really aren't any elite players in this years draft but there a bunch of players with similar talent, so I don't think there are going to be too many teams desperate to move up a few spots. But, my guess is that NE will try to trade down 5 or 10 spots, and try to pick up a first round pick in next years draft.

I agree. Belichik did not build the tea to where it is by wasting big money on unproven players. (like Guaranteeing 40 mil to a QB who didn't even have much COLLEGE experience.....). They tend to have their guys eyed long in advance. The only way I could see it is if there is just that one irressitable player that fills a need....but how many needs do they have (the age of their D is showing...but it is not an immediate problem)
They wil trade it to some sucker like Dan Snyder for the rest of this seasons draft picks, or some other fool like Cam Cameron.

Definitely what I think is going to happen. You also have to consider that some of the guys that they are going to have to resign this offseason - specifically Moss and Asante Samuel. They both will require huge, huge paychecks. Signing a guy like McFadden would mess with their cap space too much. I see them trading down and drafting a linebacker, runningback, or defensive back with their first pick, and then picking up an offensive lineman with whatever pick they get for it.

They might trade the pick they got from San Fran because they don't want to shell out the cheese it takes to land a top 5 pick.

They'll trade it...McFadden would be good, but they do have Maroney, Faulk and Evans, which frankly, along with Wes Welker, has been good enough...I think the aging LBs are a bigger priority...and maybe a DB, because Asante Samuel might be gone after this season(a la Deion Branch)
