He is a man....they dub him as the "Father of the Nation" since he played an important role in the independence of India...his real name is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi...Mahatma is just a prefix which literally translates from hindi into english as "Divine Soul"...sort of like a god but not really...

As God is invisible to all, HE takes some avatar for the betterment of human beings, as like RAMA, KRISHANA, JESUS CHRIST etc. Similarly Mahatma Gandhi is God in the form of a man.

mahatma gandhi was a man who got angry one day when he was put off a bus because of his race...rather reminds one of rosa parks, who also took a stand because of an incident on a bus-and she took her stand by keeping her seat. that's another way gandhi reminds me of rosa parks-he was the author of passive resistance, of fighting back without striking out. he also despised not only the prejudice against his countrymen and the resultant oppression-or was it the other way around?-but deplored the senselessness of the caste system that consigned people to the place they were born in, regardless of merit or effort. a visionary, a man of great compassion and insight and courage and charisma-but a man for all that.

My Friend, the answer is very simple. We all Know that MAHATMA GANDHI was a freedom fighter and god does not have to fight for freedom because freedom itself is a creation of god.

Here's the best epitaph by Einstein when he heard the news of Gandhi's death........."thousands of years shall pass by and it may some day people will wonder such a man with flesh and bones walked on this earth".
Gandhi was a man.

Maybe if the world descends into another dark age that lasts for a thousand years, such figures will be redefined as gods by the ignorant.
Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar were once worshipped as gods!

He would be the first to admit being a very insignificant man. The whole point of his protest and its nature was that that it could be undertaken by ordinary men and women. By doing this through the years, he prevailed and achieved the very status he deplored. Man, every time.

Mahatma Gandhi: Lawyer, saint, revolutionary, educator, in England, South Africa, and his native India, whose freedom he helped win. His influence, via ahimsa and satyagraha, reached the West - Martin Luther King and generations of activists of all stripes were inspired by him. Assassinated in 1948; legend has it his last words were to God, asking Him to forgive and bless his assailant. His autobiography (original title: My Experiments With Truth)

A highly revered man, may well be looked upon as a god.
A man who was educated to a very high standard, who practiced law. Took on the British Government and shamed them... A man of our time. I am fortunate to have known of him.
