No. Islam is a religion. A violent subjugating enslaving bigoted religion but a form of religion all the same.

Racism is a serious issue and the phrase brown people denigrates the subject. It is also worth baring in mind that there is a large following for Islam in pretty much every ethnic group you can think of, including middle class educated white guys. To criticise something is not necessarily to be opposed to it, just to take issue to elements contained with-in, or feel that issues invoked by the subject can be questioned. For me, the question is; why should Islam be above comment? I think you'd find a huge number of Muslims and their Imam's would agree. Perhaps it is religious fundamentalism that is wrong, and as fundamentalism comes in many guises, it is hard to see the questioning of Islam as inherently racist. While the world may have been (rightly) shocked and appalled at the persecution of a teacher for a harmless mistake, is it the application of the religion or the religion itself at fault?

No its not racist, two reason Islam is one of the fastest growing religions in so many different parts of the world. It also is the one lots of young people seem to be going towards. That is the big mystery some seem to think of it as just anti drink are something a bit like joining the temperance movement.

Middle eastern people aren't brown. They're fair skinned, mostly olive colored skin.

On the subject of criticizing Islam. I myself am a Christian, and the bible emphatically teaches that there's only 1 way to heaven. Consequently, everyone else, Muslims included, must be wrong if Christianity is right. So, I don't see criticizing Muslims as wrong, unless it's done right to their face to elicit an angry response.

no because islam is not a race. it'll seem like it because most of the people in that religion are black but technically it's not.
if the reason you're criticizing it is about RELIGION and not about WHO practices it, then no it's not.
if you're more criticizing the PEOPLE that practice the religion rather than WHAT they do, then yes it is.

It depends on how you do it. If you say "I disagree with _____ because I feel it causes _______" You are just having an intelligent conversation.

If you say "Islam is practiced by a bunch of sand *&$#()$" or something along that mentality, then yes, it is racist.
