Ok, I actually have a real question, as opposed to the stupid ones I ususally ask.

Here's the deal. For the last few weeks I've been getting phone calls on a daily basis from a collection agency. Luckily, I'm not the person they want. They keep asking for someone named John somethin...Every time they call I tell them they have the wrong person and they say they'll take the number off of the file and then, like clockwork they call again the next day and we have the exact same conversation.

I finally got pretty p*ssy with them yesterday so hopefully they wont call anymore. But if they keep it up, is there something I can do to get this cleared up and get them to stop calling me? I mean, legally at some point doesn't this become harassment or something?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have spoken with "managers" more ethan once. I haven't actually used the word harassment simply because I didn't know if that would actually be harassment. I will next time.

And I'm NOT going through the hassle of changing my phone number just because these guys can't keep records.

That happened to me a few months ago, I told the guy that I am NOT the individual that they were seeking, I had told them that several times before, and if they didn't clear up their records, that I would file harassment charges and contact an attorney regarding punitive damages for wasting my time and undue stress. I never received another call from them.

EDIT: If you tell them that they have the wrong number and they persist, it is harassment, just as if someone would persistenly be prank calling you. Hope I helped.

EDIT 2: I think the "bureau" that the young lady below is speaking of is the Federal Communications Commission.

EDIT 3: You may want to keep a log if they continue or log the date and approximate time they called in the past. This will be useful in any litigation that may arise from this situation.

You can call your phone/cell phone company and get their number blocked. Or the next time they call ask so speak to their manager. I've done that before and the lady hung up on me and never called again. LOL.

This was happening to my daughter too. She tried to tell them that she was a teenager, etc. I finally called them myself and told them not to call her number again that she did not owe anyone a dime and was not who they were looking for. So, my suggestion is that you call them and talk to them instead of waiting for them to call you back.
You can also just hang up when they call.

Threaten lawsuit yourself first. then If they proceed in calling you get yourself a lawyer and im sure one phone call from him would scare them out of continuing their harrassing calls. If not then file a lawsuit.
