Yes. If possession never changed hands (meaning the other team never had it) then it was a sack.
Well if you go by the play by play that BAGOF has below then that would not be a sack because it was a lateral handoff. The fumble would be from the running back with QB recovering and that is only a loss of yards.

To be seen a sack the quarterback ought to intend to throw a forward bypass. If the play is designed for the quarterback to hurry the ball, any loss is subtracted from the quarterback's dashing finished. If the quarterback's reason isn't obtrusive statisticians use particular standards, such by using fact the offensive line blocking off scheme, to compliment. different unique circumstances the place a loss reduces a quarterback's dashing finished (no longer a sack) are "kneel downs" (used to run destroy day the sport clock), and aborted performs, alongside with a fumbled snap that the quarterback falls directly to maintain possession. A participant will get carry of credit for a million/2 of a sack whilst diverse gamers make contributions to the sacking of a quarterback.

No sack, I'm surprised at that. here's the official play:
1-10-SF 36 (3:37) 12-T.Dilfer FUMBLES (Aborted) at SF 36, and recovers at SF 27. 12-T.Dilfer to SF 27 for no gain (52-C.Greenway). T.Dilfer attempted pitch to F.Gore; T.Dilfer charged with -9 fumble yards.
It would be a sack if he fumbled after getting touched by a Defensive player.

what if the QB takes the snap takes 2 steps....while looking for an open receiver he fumbles the ball untouched.. he recovers his own fumble..should a sack be credited to the first defensive player to touch the QB?

Nope.
It would be a fumble, fumble recovery, and I believe it would go in the books as -9 yards rushing.
Could be a forced fumble credited to the defensive player... I didn't see the play you are referring to but you didn't mention a defensive player stripping the ball. In that case it could be a sack and forced fumble

Its considered a fumble and loss on the play if he falls on it...If he is tackled after recovering the fumble, it is a sack...
