I think Rahul does not want to open ,i saw a very intresting short interview of Rahul Dravid with Rameez Raja after the end of the third test. During the interview, Rameez asked Rahul about this and Rahul just 'IGNORED' this question. Absolutely no reaction at all from him. He answered all questions properly but just completely ignored the opening slot topic.

So, i think he has told the team management that he would like to play at his #3 position. I don't think that he will open. Rahul's response to Rameez Raja's question gave a hint that he is not willing to do it again and i don' have any problem with it. I can understand, he is going through a tough time in his career. He has always been a team player and he just wants to concentrate on his batting now.

Now , Who should open with Jaffer ?

* Sachin Tendulkar ? ( has been an opener in odi's for long)
* Saurav Ganguly ? ( Opener in odi's )
* Virender Sehwag ? ( Do or die man , unpredictable)
*Yuvraj Singh ? ( Good technique)

India's Test squad for Australia -
Wasim Jaffer, Virender Sehwag, Dinesh Karthik, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Anil Kumble (capt), Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, RP Singh, Irfan Pathan, Ishant Sharma, Pankaj Singh.

There is another important thing , if you want Sehwag to open with Jaffer then you will have to drop a top class batsman from middle order.

My choice - Sachin or Saurav
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is my team for the boxing day test -
1. Jaffer
2.Ganguly
3.Dravid
4. God (lol, Sachin)
5. Yuvraj
6. Laxman
7.Dhoni
8.Pathan
9.Kumble
10.Zaheer
11. R.P Singh / Ishant Sharma
I want to have 8 batsmen in my team for the first test to make sure that we handle the burst from Australian bowling attack in the first test. First match of the series is always important and i want a solid batting line-up for the first test.
Pathan at 8 will stregthen our batting.
Dada should open. Left-Right combo rules
Pathan + Zaheer + RP = one disadvange
But what can we do? At the moment, our top 3 fast bowlers are all left handed.
Ok, if Kumble is brave he will slect Ishant. Australians have never played him, he is tall and brings the ball back in beautifully. Inconsisent with the line but that's because he is new.
I am actually unhappy, VR.V Singh should have been selected. He is in great form in domestic cricket and has some experience at international level.
Dumb selectors have selected new comer Pankaj Singh for the most important series. I hope Pankaj proves me wrong.
I am very confident that our batsmen will do it. They are capable of handling any bowlers. They have done that before and you bet, they can do it one more time.
Fielding , bowling and opening are three important fear factors at the moment.
If we can take control these 3 fear factors then i am sure we will do really well.
Ohhh., can't wait for the 26th of December.
I heard the interview as well and when he was asked about the rumours he said,"i haven't heard about it".Maybe,he was being honest or maybe just being his diplomatic self......It can be either ways you know.
I definitely won't want him to open.How many times should just he sacrifice?He did it when he was the skipper so as to accomodate players in the middle order.It went well for a while but later on,qwe all saw that it didn't help him.So,i would say,he has been playing his best cricket at no.3,let him stay there.he has given his evrything to the team.Maybe he will again but he shouldn't.
And we also know that getting Sehwag back in the 11 isn't an easy job.....If he does get a chance,then he will surely open...And if he doesn't,then why not ask Gangu Bhai to open?lol....!!!he is in top form.....He will do really well....
I think the selection of Karthik or Sehwag is for the reason that they open the innings. and with the form Jaffer is in, he is surely not to sit out. And your team selection is very interesting. We can have 6 batsmen in the team with one all-rounder ( here, Pathan), and and have space for Zaheer, Ishant and R.P.Singh to have variety in the bowling. Ishant and Pankaj have the height factor going their way and can make the ball bounce.
So my team for the boxing day test is - in the order of batting:
1. Wasim Jaffer
2. Karthik / Sehwag
3. Dravid
4. God (Sachin)
5. Ganguly
6. Dhoni
7. Pathan
8. Kumble
9. Zaheer
10. R. P. Singh
10. Ishant
My reason for not going with Yuvraj is that India need a genuine opener to get used to the conditions first and get rid of the first hour ghost when the ball does a bit. So Viru or K.D.K is reqd with Jaffer. So they cant go for experimenting and that too in a test. And Yuvraj has to play more test to get into the groove. He is a classy batsman but no choice. And the same for Laxman too.
BUT THE FINAL JUDGEMENT WILL BE SEEN ONLY AFTER HEAR THE PITCH REPORT. SO GOK???????
It is going to be a difficult situation for the team management to select an opener along with Wasim Jaffer. Since Sehwag has been selected, he should have been an automatic choice for opener. However, since his form is unpredictable, it will not be wise to make him open in the first test, as India should not loose the first test and give the advantage to Australia. If Rahul Dravid is made to open in the first test that will be ideal, so that India can play all their frontline batsmen. As it is Rahul Dravid has been coming to bat within the first couple of overs most of the time and as such opening the innings will not be any problem for him. Unless the pitch is spinner friendly, India should play with only one spinner, 3 medium pacers and one allrounder in the form of Irfan Pathan. Sachin Tendulkar and yuvaraj sdingh can take the role of spinner, if the pitch tends to help the spinner.
A good question buddy. My choice for the opening slot with Jaffer will be with Kaarthick. Then Dravid,Laxman,Saurav, Sachin,Dhoni followed by Kumble Pathan Zaheer & Ishant Yuvaraj will have to wait whereas Kaarthick has the temperament to stay long at the wicket.
Rahul Dravid probably did not ignore the question,but frankly said that he did not know anything about the rumours.I don't think Rahul Dravid should sacrifice any more.
If Rahul Dravid is given a chance,he has to open. He is also very good when he comes to bat at #3. If not Dravid,then,Sachin or Ganguly can open and set up a huge total along with other batsmen.
Virender Sehwag should open with Jaffer.In my point Dravid should bat at no.4.Laxman should bat at no.3,since he plays well against the aussies and has a very good defence than Dravid.Dravid laid the foundation for India in all three test against Pakistan because karthik got out early.So Dravid dealt with the new ball along with Jaffer.Afterwards as the ball became old Dada,Laxman&Sachin got easy runs.Coming back to the point Yuvraj will not be playing in boxing day test,since Sachin will be back from injury.And we will go with 6 batsmen one allrounder&4 bowlers.
Afterall its Australian juggernaut & we need to put up our best team & Dravid should open for the sake of team...Sorry no place for Jaffer & Karthik... Sehwag just terrors the aussie bowlers, remember that 194 at last tour....+ i give Laxman his favourite position- no. 3 ....(against Aus he's really very very special) No need for Bhajji in those wickets & spin can be took up by Viru, Yuvi & Sachin along with our skipper ...Without any further comments its better jst to present my team....
Here's :
Dravid
Sehwag
Laxman
Sachin
Ganguly
Yuvi
Dhoni
Pathan
Kumble
Zaheer
Ishant
He might in all probability be a huge failure at it as a head team coach. He wasn't lots as a captain the two. If he has objectives to teach, i think of he might make an excellent batting coach particularly to tailenders the place he can coach them the protecting technique that have been given him the nickname of the wall. Doing that could desire to then get the decrease order defensively good taking into consideration containing up an end for a whilst whilst one respectable batsman continues to be in. some tailenders staying in letting a appropriate batsman score up the different end can get team scores from 3 hundred to a 450 score
Making Dravid as an opener is following Greg Chappel's method of pushing the team to jeopardy.
Undoubtedly the opener should be Sehwag.
If we hold the attitude of 'lack of confidence' and refuse to give an opportunity for 'come back' we might have lost Ganguly and his recent records.
The same fact will happen to Sehwag also I strongly believe.He will give an awesome comeback if made as an opener.
