I mean why don't we follow somebody like Aunt Betty's Rules of Order?

Well, he certainly wasn't that clever....his book 'plagarized' the rules of the House of Representatives and he just modified those to suit private groups....

I have noticed in the past 15 yrs or so, fewer organizations stick to them to the letter...they're awfully cumbersome, even though intended to create organized [chaos?] ..lol

Henry Martyn Robert was an army officer who was asked to
chair a meeting and realized that he didn't know how.
So he studied some law and came up with Robert's Rules of Order for Parliamentary Procedure. It is pretty much followed
today.

Yes, I used to have Roberts Book when I headed a homeowners committee. We should have used "Emily Post'"
rules of etiquette with that rowdy bunch of ticked off homeowners!
