I am Australian and have a product made in China. I am in China at the moment and am trying to get a mould returned to me from a manufacturer who has broken his agreement and sold my product to someone else. He has turned nasty and is now blackmailing me into paying him a lot of money for the return of the mould. I need to know some information on numbers/emails/websites that will help me in dealing with shady business characters here in china. Is there anyone that can help??
Thx

I'd start with my state department and board of trade.

your embassy or consulate is where to start, mate.

alas, you're discovering the pitfalls of doing business in China.

Chinese courts are generally unwilling to rule in favor of a foreigner, almost no matter what the circumstances.

Thus, Chinese firms can and do reverse engineer or outright steal the products/production ability and sell the resulting goods in both the Chinese and overseas markets.

The way I was taught to handle this risk is to use a long established firm in either Hong Kong or Taiwan to manage the operation -- their business contacts on the mainland and prospects for future business partly assure that the actuall mainland production firm won't do exactly what you're describing.

Welcome to China !!! the approach you're experiencing is ordinary of many chinese language enterprise people. they have no integrity and honesty is an alien concept to them. As for an company which will grant help to i could say that the opportunity of that occuring is amazingly slender. you're , inspite of each thing, a foreigner, and as such you would be dealt with as a 2nd classification man or woman and provided little or no, if any, help. study your lesson and then unfold the observe appropriate to the way the chinese language have dealt with you. Western people only do no longer understand what chinese language people are like so we could teach them to warn appropriate to the therapy they recieve in China. good success to you.

The best solution is to get powerful Chinese friends. Never do business in China without a strong network.

Hope you have some KY Jelly with you or other personal lubricant because you are going to get screwed. This is the same government and corporate structure that pumped millions of dangerous toys to America, aborts girl children, imprisons dissenters and you expect a fair hearing?

Be careful
