Skynyrd gets the press, and for southern rock they're probably the best but it's debateable.

Them all...especially "One Way Out"..that's some rock'n'roll guitar..IMO..one of the all-time great breaks..I agree with what everyone else has posted.."Hot 'Lanta" to "Les Brers in A minor" to "Brothers and Sisters"..some real perspective on Duane Allman can be found on the "Anthology" albums 1 & 2 where his session work can be found from Boz Scaggs (as Beatle Fanatic has already suggested) to the Dominoes,Clarence Carter,Arethra,Wilson Pickett,Scott Boyer& Cowboy,John Hammond,him and Clapton going acoustic slide head to head on Little Walter's "Mean Old World" to one of their first incarnations...The Allman Joys jamming on a blues medley to the Allmans themselves..IMHO..an indispensible companion.Man..I just Loved that band..even after reading a few biographies...Brrr!

I have seen the Allman Brothers 5 different times. I have seen Skynyrd three. They equally kick @ss! I would have to say though that the Allmans are a lot more laid back and my style of music (I am a long hair). But my favorite is:
Their first full studio album without guitarist Duane, 1973's Brothers and Sisters doesn't match what came before it but would probably be considered a masterpiece if it came from most other bands. The Allmans move away from their rougher blues rock toward a groovier Southern rock, a shift that reflects the increased influence of Dickey Betts and new pianist Chuck Leavell. Betts contributes such as "Ramblin' Man," "Southbound," and the classic instrumental "Jessica," plus the acoustic finale "Pony Boy."
As for my favorite songs these are the ones that immediately come to mind:

2)Back Where it all Begins
3)One Way Out
4)Don't keep me Wondering
5)Ain't Wasting Time No More
Back to favorite albums, a live one that you must check out is an "evening with the allman brothers."
The 2nd CD "second set" is unbelievable. Back where it all begins and Jessica are both on there.

I can handle them in small doses, and I certainly have to be in the mood. They're better when one of the songs pops up on the iPod and catches me by surprise.

I've seen the Allman Brothers a few times--they were the first ever concert in the Superdome back in 1975--it had all of the early great southern rock bands---also

I really oughta hear more of them....I saw them live 2 years ago & MAN! That new kid guitar player, Trucks was AMAZING! Made me wonder what Duane would've thought.

I love all the Allman Brothers.
If you want to hear one of the best guitar solos ever (which I know you like) then listen to Duane "Skydog" Allman on "Loan Me a Dime" which is on the Boz Scaggs album. It's the best guitar solo ever recorded of Duane and is one of my all time favorite songs.

Hard not to agree with your choices. NOTE: I think their most underated instrumental (not their best, but) is "High Falls" from Win, Lose, or Draw.
ALSO - ALL of the Duane Allman period should be considered as one of the most important material in Music history - LEGENDARY... LEGACY...
