I will be staying at the Hilton Garden Inn by the airport. Is there a spot near there to watch the sunrise?

you can try on top of South Mountain or over of Piestewa Peak (Squaw Peak), any mountain top is good viewing. But, as the person above said, Phoenix is pretty flat, you can see from just about anywhere.

Climb up either Piestewa Peak or Camelback Mountain for the best view. Dress warm and bring a headlamp. You'll also undoubtedly run across Ringtail Cats on top of Piestewa. They're friendly, don't worry, but don't pet em'!

Hands down this is the best way to watch the sunrise.

Or you could just drive up South Mt. form the southern end of Central Ave.
