My ex-boyfriend is willing to paying $800 and he will not tell me how much he makes. We are trying to keep it out of the courts. I think he makes about $80k per year. Is this a fair amount?

Support dosen't go by his income, there are statues of limitation on paying child support. If this amount is for 1 child then it is more than enough, and your not legally entitled to more, he dosen't have to support you to. Even if it's for 2 kids this is more than enough support for your kids. Yes this is more than fair!!

Stop being a damn gold digger. The money is for the child not you. Your ex boy friend is not a walking check book. $800 dollars a month is more than enough money to help support a child. If it's not I suggest you get off your lazy a-s and get a job. It's your child too. The nerve of some people!

His "willingness" should have nothing to do with it. Don't try to avoid the courts and arrange this yourselves - you will always lose out. The courts should determine, based upon his income, the number of children, other obligations, etc., what he is able to pay. Otherwise many men start thinking of child support as some bonus they can offer whenever they have extra money lying around, ignoring the fact that their children need to eat even when they CAN'T afford it.

The fact that he is not willing to tell you how much he makes should indicate that he is not paying you as much as the state would require. That being said, states differ slightly. Typically, child support cannot consume more than 33.33etc… percent of your income. Most states have to go by that guideline. I make in that neighborhood and pay well over 1k per month in support. I do it without hesitation, it is his child as well, he needs to step up.

One child is 50% of wages. Two children is 2/3 of the wages.
Why keep it out of court? What if he wins the lottery or something? Get it in writing, otherwise, someday you'll wake up, and you'll have nothing for that precious child.

800 sounds pretty good to me. I think it is like 300 legally depending in your situation, income etc. so if I were you I would keep it quiet, cause too much inquiry into his finances might change things (for the bad)

thats plenty for the kid, not for YOUR use. If he plans on being part of the kids life then just leave it like that. While you are at it, find a job yourself and use a FREE condom next time and stop being a gold digger.
