What I am saying, is that this is baseball, not war, the economy, health care, poverty....it's baseball.
If the govt has all that covered first, then, when they are finished solving all the ills of the world should they get involved in steroids in baseball.
Baseball should handle this, not the govt.

I think so. Steroids can be seriously detrimental to a persons health. Aside from the harm that it cause to the players, you need to understand that professional athletes are role models for many young children. If kids see their favorite stars playing well because of steroids they'll feel more inclined to use them as well. It's bad enough that players use them, I don't want to think about my kids using them someday because it was okay that Jose Canseco did.

It's a big deal for a few reasons.
All sports (and their athletes) set gauges for kids to attain, they market to kids as well and if sports allow drugs that are illegal, illicit or harmful, children may follow suit. If the sport doesn't protect the minds of children from it, someone has to step in.
Both the sport (management) and the players (union) benefit from steroids, hence no real motivation to actually do something except in the guise of public relations.
Protecting the public that it governs is the primary responsibility of government (as opposed to assaulting the public of people that it doesn't govern) and like people that are mentally ill and can't be responsible for their own care, players that use steroids are knowingly affecting their own health and perhaps it's time they be treated as mentally ill people.

First of all i should make it clear that steroids enhance the power and metabolism.
So taking account in sports, steroids if used wont display the true picture of a sportsperson but it will be the power of steroid which can make the other team loose even if they can perform well.
So to have a check on the use of steroids by player should be on the top list

I personally think that if someone used steroids before they were banned in baseball, they should not be disciplined by mlb. There are several pitchers in the hall of fame who threw spitballs when they were legal (and countless ones who threw them after they were banned, quite against the rules.) In legal business, there is a term called ex post facto, latin for after the fact, meaning that you cannot be punished for an act later made illegal. This should apply to sports too.

What's the "right" amount of time and effort? It's illegal to take these drugs without a presc. so what's the gov. supposed to do if they suspect that half the players in the league are using? Nothing?
If you're saying that these drugs should be legal then that's a different question.

Those steroids and performance enhancers are deadly. Theyu cause liver, brain cancer, testicular shrinkage, diabetes, depression. Yes, the government should get involved. Ehat kind of role model do you want or want your kids to have?
