i have been living in my place of residence for a bit over 14 years. i just renewed my lease yesterday. i was thinking about having someone to move in with me but, not to report it. meaning the rent will stay the same and we would cut my current rent in half along with the phone bill only....

when i recert. she looked me dead in my eyes and said it is against the rules to have someone stay with me with out reporting it. it was like she could read my mind lol.

well, i know for a fact that other residents have their family members living with them but, they get away with it.

what do you think?

i wouldnt chance it mona!! 14 years is a long time, you prob have made alot of frinds and a pefect home out of this place....and finding somewhere new to live in such short notice (if you get caught) would be hard!!!! i would think about it very carefully, especially with you having a family and all!!!

What does it say in the lease? And just how badly do you want to stay there?

If it's not stated in the lease ignore it. If you do have to report you have a room mate and the cost of the residence remains the same go ahead and tell. If the cost of the residence would go up-- I'd be looking for a different place. Your landlord is price gouging.

You said 'when I recert'. What does that mean?

I know people that do this. They have beautiful furniture, nice cars and their kids have everything. But they look over there back every moment while they are home. When the landlord comes to pick up rent he has to leave . They are in constant fear. They leave outside of a section 8 complex. I would imagine it would be much worse in an area where everyone knows the rules. Personally I was in a similar situation I chose to get off the program and pay full rent rather then look over my shoulder every second I am home. I don't think its worth it.

I wouldn't jeopordize what you have. By breaking the rules could cause you alot of problems and headaches, and you could also lose your place or any future place. If you really want a roommate then it's best to do it legally, because the consequences will only effect you not your roomate, think about it, is it worth the risk to be put on the street after 14 years?

Don't risk it hon;14 years is a long time,it's not worth it.If it is a family member, just add them on the lease and make it clear to them that they will be responsible for part of the rent.
Good luck!

What part of "is against the rules to have someone stay with me with out reporting " Isn't clear to you. The others may have reported and be paying extra....whatever.

Don't risk eviction and a huge bill.

The fact is that if your landlord finds out, you may get a notice to move in five days. I don't know if I would find it worth having to move after that many years.
I know people who got a five day notice just for having pets that they weren't supposed to have. I guess it depends on how big of a risk you are willing to take.

It is only against the rules, does not mean they will throw you out. I don't think they will, and I don't think if you tell them they will increase your rent. Don't you hate the fact that you pay your rent and can not even pain a wall in your apartment cause even though you pay your rent on time every single month and they say it is your home they don't even let you paint a wall on it?!

Would you check this out plz?

apart from stating the Adelaide Crows as quickly as, and asserting footy a pair of cases, this rant isn't approximately footy and as you will see this section is Australian regulations. you're patently in the incorrect section.

i wouldnt do it....heres my take on the neighbors doing it and getting away with it....#1 you are fully aware that it is against the rules of your lease....#2 look at it this way....if you are driving and someone is speeding, dont try to keep up with them to "go with the flow" or reason that "theyre doing it so i can to"....just follow the speed limit.....you dont have to pay their ticket ~ they do
