You might be confuised because there are different answers here. To tell you the truth, to get the correct answer, what you want to do is multiply 600 by 3/10 or .3. You will get 180. That is 30% of 600, not 30% off of it. Simply subtract 180 from 600 to get 420 and that is the correct answer. Any other math questions?
I have also taken the time to find you a percentage calculator here :

http://www.csgnetwork.com/csgpercent.html.

This site has a couple different percentage calculators.
For future help, when you find the percentage of a number, and you want to know what it is off of it, ( like 30% OFF) all you have to do is take 100% - (whatever percent) and take your number times that one.
Therefore, another way to find 30% off is to multiply it by 70% because it's 30% off of 100%.

I hope I helped!

start by converting 30% to a fraction :

30% = 3/10

Then we have

30% of 600 = 3/10 x 600 = 3/10 x 600/1 = 1800/10

Notice that 600 was rewritten as the fraction 600/1, and that to multiply two fractions together, you simply multiply the numerators and denominators.

In order to find the simplest form of the fraction 1800/10 we cancel out the greatest common divisor of 1800 and 10, which is 10 :

1800/10 = 180/1

So the final answer is

30% of 600 = 180
Method 2

Alternately, we can convert 30% directly to a decimal :

30% = 0.3

Then, doing the calculation by hand or with a calculator, we find

30% of 600 = 0.3 x 600 = 180

So the final answer is

30% of 600 = 180

so 180 - 600 = 420

For future reference the easy way to find a percentage is to divide by 100 and multiply by the percentage you want to find, for example in this case divide 600 by 100 and the answer is 6, then multiply by 30 and, as you now already know, the result is 180. I hope that helps you
