People will look at you as a racist if you hang with someone who is racist. It's just a natural tendency to associate your views with the views of your friend unless you distinguish yourself verbally when he speaks. Are you a racist? Only you know that, but I do not hang with racist people and if someone makes a racist remark in my presence, I tell them I disagree completely and I leave. I believe we can make a difference in the world and we have a duty to point out racist, sexist, homophobic remarks if we disagree. I believe we have a duty to associate with people who believe in equality and human dignity. You may be thinking: "Nothing I do is ever going to change him," but you could plant that seed that makes him start to think. I once pointed out to a friend that I thought he might consider looking at his alcohol comsumption. It took several years, but I planted the seed and he called me when he realized he had a problem. Also, if you don't object, you are a participant in the racial remarks. Maybe it won't change your friend, but it may influence one other person in the group. Just ask yourself this: "Do I have any responsibility to make the world a better place for all mankind?" If you think you do, act like it on every occasion.

Yes. If your hanging with crips and the bloods drive by you are a crip.
It has less to do with you than it does with the perception of others.
racism-1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
2 : racial prejudice or discrimination
it comes in all colors.

I'm trying to remember the last time I've heard a white person make a racist remark and it has to be over 10 years ago.
I work with people in jail and prison and I perceive that many people of color think there is racism that no longer exists, at least systematically, which is their belief.

Racist abuse in USA or UK usually causes a bar-room brawl. And rightly. Except when the racist is black or Polish, for some reason. So, I advise you to chose your friends more wisely (if you live somewhere where you have that choice - many people don't; they are stuck with the company they keep).
You correctly suspect that the toleration of an evil propagates it.

No. But why would you want to be friends with a racist? And why do you post questions about CRACKERS? Who is the racist we are talking about here?

No of course not unless you agree with his racial opinions as racism is an individual choice as either you are or you're not. I choose not to be myself.

Everybody's a racist to some degree. If they don't admit it they're a liar.
