1. YES 8800 GT will work on your motherboard.
2. BUT it will most likely be bottelenecked by your AMD X2 4000+. Consider overclocking it or upgrading to the X2 5000+ Black Edition that easily overclocks to X2 6000+ level. Overclocking is SAFE especially at stock voltage and adequate cooling. It is the heat that damages processors even if not overclocked.
3. You have to upgrade your power supply to one with at least 26 amps on the +12V rail. A 500W unit with strong dual +12V rails should be enough.
4. 8800GT usually comes w/ 512mb memory. That should be enough. Mainstream and high end cards do not share from system RAM.

thats a decent if not a very good configuration...most of games will run with ur onboard graphics...

using vista? that maybe one reason i will upgrade to the card u mentioned.....games dont use directx10 as of now most of them...

if u are a gamer use windowsxp and u will see that games fly...u can enable a dual boot that is both vista and xp in case u dont want to loose vista

if i were u i will take only extra ram memory..its upto u...make it 2 gb or 4 gb

no ur graphics card will aid ur processor and not take memory in fact it will free up memory from ur mainboard 1 gb....
ur motherboard will support all 3 ....256,512,1 gb graphics card....

graphics card will aid in putting to screen 3d effects it will use memory in graphics card and free up memory that u have ...that is ur 1 gb will have more free memory to run applications

if ur graphics card dont work ..maybe u have to put driver cd that came with it and plugin the monitor connector into slot on graphics cards back

As long as you have a PCI-Express x16 slot, nVidia GeForce 8800GT will work perfectly. BTW, check nVidia GeForce 8800GT's power consumption need. You might need a new power supply if in case you power supply does not emit the right watts. :D

Yes it will work as long as you get a PSU that can handle it.
There's a brand new 512MB 8800GTS out thats even faster than the 8800GT. Heres one:
