Note: This is not my question. The person asking does not have an account.

"If abortion is murder, how do you feel about a man masturbating and then ejaculating into a sock? Think of it, millions of tiny souls, lost in a sock. That could have been a million little presidents, or doctors. Men should never masturbate and women should not get abortions. Right?"

Okay. She's typed it. And now she's fallen asleep. This question is from my 12 year old stepsister.

Happy Answering!

I raised the 'sperm is not a life' point with her before I let her ask.

Her response : "That why do people keep saying 'the sperm die'? It can't die, if it never lived to begin with."

*This is just my opinion, and she's asleep, so I can't ask her.*

I'm pretty sure she was being sarcastic about some of the things in her question.

And I think she was trying to make fun of certain religion-based groups.

__

Is it wrong for her to know about masturbation and abortion? She's already had her period. It'd be stupid of her parents to keep her in the dark about things like that. And she's inquisitive, she wants to know everything about everything.

Abortion is still a right in this country. Religion can't take that away yet.

First of all, sperm and ova are not souls, they are merely elements that can make a soul if the circumstances are right.

There's nothing wrong with masterbation for either men or women. It's a good way of letting off steam without anyone getting hurt.

As for abortions - in a perfect world, every pregnancy would result in a child being wanted, but sadly this is not the case. My own feeling is that abortion should be a last resort when all other forms of contraception have failed, or should be brought in when the woman has been raped or the pregnancy is the result of incest. I find it hard to accept abortion purely as a means of birth control, especially when there are so many other options available. However, it can be an extremely difficult decision for a young woman to make, which is why is should remain the woman's decision, given that it's her life and her body that will be directly affected.

Your little sister is naive, but she's only 12 ... as she gets older and realises just how complicated the whole reproduction thing is, she will probably rethink the whole issue.

ok well thats a loaded question for a 12 year old to be asking. I hope my daughter doesn't know what masturbating is at age 12. Or abortions for that matter...

Now masturbating produces sperm/semen that is usually discarded in what ever way seems appropriate to the male in question.
By the same token, a woman ovulates, releases an egg, it doesn't get fertilised and it is expelled with a period.

An abortion is physically taking away a fertilised egg and sperm which has created an embryo/baby. Sperm on its own isn't creating a baby and neither is an egg that doesn't get fertilised.

I really don't see how these two things are in any way similar and you should explain that to her.

She should be informed that masturbating either by a woman or man is a normal and natural occurence that isn't shameful or abnormal by any standard.
An abortion is totally different and is taking away an already created human being in the making.

I hope that gives some ideas on how to explain it, or get her parents to do it. They should know that she is curious about these adult things.

Same with a women's period. The obvious answer people against abortion give is that it's not fertilised yet and when it's fertilised is when it's "life" (as in life that has the potential to be a person, not living tissue). Of course it's still only a few cells, but they think of it as a person.

I am pro choice but that's what the pro lifers would argue.

Oh yeah and there is definitely nothing wrong with a 12 year old knowing about masturbation or abortion.

Well this is just a point to add that even though the sperm are alowed to go to the egg only one of them make it anyway. Plus its not a soul till the egg and the sperm unite. Theyre just called "alive" but they dont think or have souls they just have uncontrolable movements kind of like when someone dies and they still move some because their nerves are still going.

Masturbation is a one-man act and it doesnt involve any partner that will make a baby.....but abortion involves three persons, the parents and the child..and ohh even outside factor the abortionist......see this is a band or team work that is why this not really acceptable not in the eyes of the society and worst in God's eyes, after all once the fetus starts the heartbit inside the mother's womb, that is already a life, and I dont beleive what other women say that they can do anything with what they like with their body..this is only possible if no one else is involved...otherwise abortion is widely acceptable if it doesnt a third party,,,,,,,,,,,poor soul~~~..............tell her this....~~~

Well, first , without a woman's egg, there wouldn't be a baby no matter how many times men masturbath. Same thoery to women. So when men masturbath, there's nothing be killed.

Mmm, as women get abortion... Depends on how did the women get pregnant... What if she was raped ? Then get abortion or not ?? But yea, women shouldn't get abortions.

never looked at it like that.. but i would say that its not a union until the egg and sperm have fertilized. Sperm by itself i wouldnt say is a life/soul.

will be interesting to find out others views on this.. i'll be watching! xxx

I don't believe that abortion is murder until a certain point in the pregnancy. A woman has the right to do what she wants with her own body.
