Or should I say, what do you think is the purpose of life? I am a college Senior and when I look around me I see good deeds, but I also see a lot of selfish kids who waste a TON of money on alcohol most nights out of the week and waste their parents' money. There is a homeless man who frequents our library so right now I am trying to wrap my mind around all of it. If kids put as much energy into helping people as they do stalking people on Facebook, or getting drunk more often than not, then the world might actually be a great place. Who knows.. Oh, and I'm no saint myself. I like to party, but I also like community service.

Matthew T, So without acknowledging God, my (and other people's) good actions don't matter any more than bad actions? So what you're getting at is there is no good and bad if there is no God? Hmm. I just simply have a conscience. Which ultimately doesn't matter bc I don't believe in God. Interesting. (I'm not saying that you are wrong).

It's great that you have a conscience. But purpose of life demands more than a conscience. Or I should say that purpose is a much broader concept than sympathy and empathy.
“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell
If we don't assume God is behind our conscience, then everything you see as right and good is just based on your personal feeling and other people are entitled to their own personal feelings. So, without God, helping the homeless is no more moral or purposeful than ignoring the homeless.
"I just simply have a conscience. Which ultimately doesn't matter bc I don't believe in God. Interesting."
The important thing is not the conscience itself but the source of the conscience. If it is just some set of feelings, it has no authority over us and why then should we obey it? Just for the sentimental value? Either our conscience is of God or it is of no importance.

What is the purpose of a rainbow?
We know it is just a phenomenon.
But,if we insist that rainbow has a purpose,we might find lot of answers.
I think life is just like that. It does not have a purpose. It is just a phenomenon.
Life brings with it an amount of inevitable happiness and sadness.
My current strategy is to reduce the tension of mine and others-as far as as possible and live till i die.
I too don't believe in god..

i think that the purpose of life is to learn a big lesson and fullfill your deepest desires.if that lesson is not learnt and that desire is not fullfilled, you will keep coming back to life (as in reincarnation) until those things are done. once you have learnt a lesson, and fullfilled a desire you will move on to a higher place (such as "heaven") where you will live out the remainder of your life in peace and harmony with all living things.
