I don't get it either. Why not ban the sale of all alcoholic beverages? Why not? because all the big shots drink. Who cares how many people are killed by drunk drivers? I guess as long as they weren't smoking it's ok.

As an ex-smoker who sometimes craves a cig when i'm drinking, I find the smoking ban helpful for purely selfish reasons. there are pros and cons. just because there are lots of cars and drunks, that doesn't mean it's a free-for-all of unhealthiness and cigarette smoke for a non-smoker is a bit gross. personally, i still enjoy the smell but that's my own private torture. having said that, inside of pubs seem to have much less atmosphere with the party out on the pavement with the smokers. also, smokers are humans and should be allowed to smoke in a sheltered safe environment with an ashtray provided so they are not littering the pavement and most pubs i've been to haven't done that.
The oddest thing though, in this world of super tolerance and politcal correctness is how hateful people are towards smokers and completely intolerant of what is a nasty addiction, not something people do because they 'want to kill themselves'.

Well...I'm an ex-smoker of 9 years. I have nothing against smokers now that i don't smoke anymore. Although i don't really agree with the smoking bans i see the point. Alcohol is not a safe drunk either but i can drink until i fall under the table every night and if you are sitting next to me nothing health wise will happen to you. Cigarettes on the other hand is the only product in the world that will not only kill the person smoking them but the person next to you not smoking as well. So i kinda see where they are coming from by baning them from bars and public places.

I Know Exactly What You Mean, Everyone Else Is Allowed To Enjoy Drinking and Such, But Why Discriminate Smokers... It maybe something they do to calm down or enjoy... just like drinkers... People are well aware that smoking kills, and its up to them with that knoledge if they wish to continue... its like taking candy from a baby... which is a very cruel thing to do.... Here in australia they banned smoking in pubs... They public went crazy at that... Just imagine the damage that will be caused in england when people get a craving for a smoke and cannot have one... People will be furious...

No. It is not stupid. Why should the non-smokers have to take in all that smoke? If smokers are risking their lives, they shouldn't be risking ours too. I'm glad about the ban. You can smoke at home if you want, it's not so bad.
Alcohol is a different thing. The people who drink are not risking other peoples lives. They should not be drink driving though, or is that ban stupid too? hmmm.

I think it went too far - people should have had a choice. They have a ban in Spain and it is largely ignored!

i think it's good because there will be less lung cancer cases and less deaths. smokers can do better with they're lives then waste they're lives aways from a cig.
