Did you run a full vaccuum before adding in freon? When you look at the unit internals do you see any frost on components? Sometime older units have the drier freeze up due to moisture. If there is solder contamination it will clog the sprayer inside. If the compressor is worn, it will not pump up to the right high pressure. A good set of gauges with someone that knows how to read them can usually give a diagnosis. Would it be cheaper to just buy a new one and be worry free for several years?

Clean the outside coil. It's too clogged up to dissipate the heat generated, the machine has an auto cut off when the coil gets so hot, it won't let it over heat, visit a place that deals with that to buy some good coil cleaner. Personally, I have one of those steam jet machines that allows me to clean it fairly easily. clean the inside coil while you're at it.

BE SURE THAT THE POWER IS OFF TO IT BEFORE YOU DO A THING!!!
