Yes. It was called V for Vendetta by Alan Moore from Vertigo Comics. Its a baby company of DC, therefore it is from DC but does not exist in the world of Superman and company.

I just love their stories about life and family. I identify with Brad, the firefighter trying to get the girl of his dreams as he comes into being a man.
