1910s This was the Ragtime Era, when among others, there were a variety of 'animal dances';
the kangaroo hop, the duck waddle, the turkey trot, the bunny hug, the grizzly bear and others.
Also the foxtrot, the tango and the waltz
1920s Charleston, Black Bottom, Foxtrot, Tango, Waltz
1930s Lindy Hop, Balboa, St Louis Shag (yes, really!)
1940s This was the era of the big bands and 'swing':
Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing, West Cast Swing, Boogie woogie, Jive, Early Rock and Roll.
Hope this helps
