8800GT is a 110 watter and draws everything (almost 10 amps) from the +12V rail of power supply. Get a 500 - 550W power supply with at least 18 amps on +12 V1DC since other devices (HDD, CD/DVD, fans) will also draw from that rail. Processor voltage regulator circuit draws from +12 V2DC.
450W power supplies may only have 14 amps on +12 V1DC rail. It could run hot or be overloaded by the 8800GT and other devices drawing on that power rail.

Recommended for the 8800GT is a minimum of 450w+ aftermarket PSU. If you buy a computer case that comes with a PSU, chances are that PSU will burn out within several months. Invest in something with like 500w+ to be on the safe side and it will also help in the future if you plan on adding more hardware.
Also be sure to look for the PCI-E power adapter that comes with the PSU. Most of the new PSU already comes with it so you don't really have to worry about that.

I have built many of my own computers over the years and have built them in terms of (bigger is better), regarding the power supply. For more recent computer builds, I would go no less than 500W, and I currently run a 600W in my system. It really all depends on how much you are going to be running in your computer, ie. hard drives, multiple rom drives, GPU's etc...
If you are going to just run a single video card like the 8800GT, I would go with a 500 or 550W. This keeps in mind that you will have 1 hard drive, 1 rom drive, 3 fans on average and a single GPU. If you where going to have more than any of the things I have listed I would definitely bump up your PSU wattage just to make sure you have enough and have room for expansion ;)

U ARE CORRECT. THE REQUIREMENT IS 400 OR 425 . THERE ARE THINGS TO CONSIDER. 400 W DOESNT REALLY MEAN 400W. MINE IS 500W BUT THERE IS A STICKER ON THE SIDE OF PSU THAT SAYS MAX OUTPUT 408W. THEY LIED ON THE BOX. ALSO THE +12V RAILS HAVE TO BE MORE THAN 17 AMPS.THERE SHOULD BE A CHART ON THE SIDE OF THE BOX THAT TELL YOU WHAT THE AMPS ARE. MINE IS 17A ON TWO 12V RAILS, COMBINED IS 34A......NOT ENOUGH. ALSO THERE ARE WATT CALCULATORS ON THE WEB BUT YOU HAVE TO KNOW THE WATT OF EVERYTHING ON YOUR PC TO CALCULATE. SOMEONE TOLD ME 8800GT TAKES 110W. SO IF YOU HAVE A 350 ADD 110 AND A LITTLE BIT MORE. IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY I WOULD GO WITH A 1000W FOR FUTURE EXPANSION. YOU CAN NOT OVER DO WATTS BUT YOU CAN UNDER DO AND DAMAGE PC.

Get at least a well branded 500W PSU for that graphics card. Your CPU will hold back performance in Source based games when there is lots of players and in crysis.

I am currentlly running an 8800GT. i had to upgrade my PSU when i got it tho, from 450W to a Antec TruePower Quattro 850W.
This handels it no probs at all. It is also good to look at and very power conservative. all in all best money i have ever spent on a PSU.
