the water does not have to be warm to clear ice but you should have your wipers on to clear the water if it is still freezing.car glass is toughened and may crack if you already have damage to glass if water is too hot...i fill an already boiled kettle with cold water onto what water was left from breakfast cuppa .....and if it is too warm empty some and top with more cold

Best thing to do is leave it in your garage so it doesn't freeze in the 1st place, so take all of your rubbish out of it and take it to the tip. or the night before cover it up with an old blanket or curtain. warm water only freezes again due to the air in it. deicer is OK, if you have ac turn it to hot and recycle so u don't get any cold air in to car. sit in your car till engine warms up, or buy a hot air fan heater that plugs into cigarette lighter socket

i find it helps if you can try and cover the windscreen when you park up for the night, put some cardboard over the screen held in place with the wipers

I simply switch on my heated windscreen - it takes about 2 minutes to clear.

Use a scraper, it warms you up, removes the ice and cleans the windscreen all in one.
