Right now I'm in college, but let's play make-believe. My wife and I have 2 children. They are 12 and 14. We're both successful physicians. Now we get a divorce and she won custody of the kids. Since we're both making 300k apiece, would I still have to pay child support? remember. this isn't real so don't call me a deadbeat and rip on me. Besides, I'm old fashion. When I get married, i plan on staying married.

Yes, you would have to pay child support. Basically they way it usually works is wit a formula similar to this: They add the parents incomes together and then use a formula to determine what it would take to raise a child per month based on those incomes (the idea is that people with more money would have a higher standard of living and therefore spend more on their kids). Let's say the amount is 1500.00. Then they look to see what percentage of the total income is provided by each parent. If the parents make equal amounts they would each be responsible for 50% of the amount it would take to raise their kid. so, with these numbers child support would be ordered in the amount of 750.00 per month. If the non custodial parent makes more than the custodial parent, their percentage would be higher and they would be responsible for more support...likewise, if the custodial parent makes more than the non-custodial the non-custodial parent is responsible for a smaller percentage than the custodial.

Yes you will still have to pay child support its not a matter of how much money one makes but that the cost of the child raising is evenly divided. the only time income is a factor is when one parent makes more than the other then the cost is divided at a different percentage instead of 50/50

Of course you will have to pay child support. It doesn't matter what kind of money the momma makes. It goes by what the daddy makes since he doesn't have custody and vice versa. Remember the more you make the more you pay! I know some men will get a crappy job so they don't have to pay much. It's a shame.
